Since 1942, Western Michigan University has offered aviation and engineering education. These programs are all accredited by the by the national and international Aviation Accreditation Board International and the national Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The College of Aviation offers the only comprehensive aviation program at a public university in Michigan, and with nearly 900 undergraduate students, is one of the largest aviation programs in the nation. WMU has extensive research and publication history in the fields of aviation human factors, safety training, flight training, and electronic training and simulation applications. WMU is currently an affiliate academic partner of the FAA Center of Excellence for General Aviation.
